FAQ
Common Questions
Teak is one of the best woods for wet environments because it naturally contains protective oils that resist water, mold, and mildew. This natural durability helps teak furniture maintain its strength and appearance even with daily exposure to moisture. As a result, teak benches and stools are long-lasting, low maintenance, and ideal for bathrooms, showers, and spa areas.
Yes. Teak shower benches are specifically designed for wet environments. The slatted construction allows water to drain easily, helping the bench dry quickly after use. Many teak benches and stools also include rubber or non-slip feet to help keep them stable on tile or stone shower floors.
Teak benches and stools require minimal maintenance. To clean, simply rinse with water and occasionally scrub gently with mild soap and a soft brush to remove soap residue. Over time, teak naturally develops a silver-gray patina. If you prefer to maintain the original golden color, you can periodically apply teak oil.
Absolutely. Teak’s natural weather resistance makes these benches versatile enough for many uses beyond the shower. They work well in outdoor showers, pool areas, saunas, patios, and spa environments. Many people also use teak stools as decorative seating or storage surfaces in bathrooms.
While bamboo benches may appear similar, bamboo tends to absorb moisture more easily and may crack, warp, or develop splinters over time in humid environments. Teak is a dense hardwood naturally resistant to water and humidity, making it far more durable for bathroom and shower use. This helps teak benches maintain their smooth surface and structural integrity for years.
Yes, our shower mats and stools may be used inside the shower. With that said, there are certain precautions and a maintenance schedule we highly recommend following to keep your items clean and to prevent any potential mildew from eventually growing, and not to mention protecting your shower surfaces. First, we recommend placing a towel or other fabric on the underside of the product to collect any excess oil for the first few water cycles to ensure there is no leakage and to protect your floors and surface. From that point forward, we recommend inspecting the underside of your mat and/or stool for any potential mildew growth at least once a month and clean where necessary. Teak wood is naturally mildew-resistant however it is not mildew-proof.
