General Teak Questions
Teak is a premium hardwood known for its exceptional durability, natural oils, tight grain, and resistance to moisture and weather. These qualities make teak an excellent choice for furniture, outdoor living spaces, bathrooms, showers, and other areas where durability is important.
Our natural teak wood is sustainably sourced through our partner Indonesian Tree Farms. 100% harvested teak wood is known for its durability and strength. It is a hardwood that is naturally resistant to rot, pests, and moisture, making it an excellent choice for outdoor furniture that is exposed to the elements. Making it a sustainable choice for furniture because it is harvested from responsibly managed plantations.
Teak is a slow-growing tree, which means that it is not over-harvested or depleted. Additionally, teak wood can be recycled or repurposed, reducing waste and environmental impact.
Compared to other woods, teak offers superior resistance to moisture, warping, and cracking. Lower-quality woods or softwoods like bamboo or acacia may deteriorate more quickly, especially outdoors. Teak’s dense grain and natural oils help it maintain its structure and smooth finish over time, making it a more reliable and long-lasting choice.
For most outdoor pieces, cleaning 1–2 times per year is a good baseline. In harsher climates or high-use areas, more frequent cleaning may help maintain appearance. Any indoor pieces can benefit from annual cleaning and maintenance.
Yes. Teak is naturally water resistant because of its high oil content and dense grain. This makes it particularly well suited for humid environments, bathrooms, showers, patios, decks, and outdoor furniture. However, water resistant does not mean completely waterproof, so proper care is still recommended.
Teak oil is optional. It can enrich color temporarily, but many owners prefer teak protectors or sealers designed to preserve color without encouraging mildew or excess buildup.
Teak Wood Mats
Teak bath mats offer superior durability, hygiene, and style compared to traditional fabric mats. Natural teak wood contains oils that make it highly resistant to water, mold, and mildew, making it ideal for bathrooms and wet environments. Unlike fabric mats that stay damp and require frequent washing, teak bath mats dry quickly and add a spa-like aesthetic to your bathroom.
Yes. Teak shower mats are designed specifically for wet environments like showers, bathrooms, and even outdoor spas. The slatted design allows water to drain easily while providing a stable surface underfoot. Many teak mats also include non-slip rubber feet or grips to keep them securely in place.
Teak bath mats are very low maintenance. Simply rinse with water and occasionally scrub gently with mild soap and a soft brush to remove residue. Over time, teak naturally develops a beautiful silver-gray patina. If you prefer to maintain the golden teak color, you can apply a teak oil periodically.
Absolutely. Because teak is naturally weather-resistant, these mats work well in outdoor showers, pool areas, spas, saunas, and patios. Their durability and drainage make them a versatile solution for any area where water is present.
While bamboo bath mats are often marketed as eco-friendly, they are typically less durable in wet environments. Bamboo is a grass that can absorb moisture, which may cause it to crack, warp, or develop splinters over time. Teak, on the other hand, is a dense hardwood naturally rich in protective oils that make it highly resistant to water, mold, and mildew. This natural durability helps teak bath mats maintain their smooth surface and structural integrity even with daily exposure to moisture, making them a safer and longer-lasting choice for bathrooms and showers.
Yes, our shower mats and stools may be used inside the shower. With that said, there are certain precautions and a maintenance schedule we highly recommend following to keep your items clean and to prevent any potential mildew from eventually growing, and not to mention protecting your shower surfaces. Â
First, we recommend placing a towel or other fabric on the underside of the product to collect any excess oil for the first few water cycles to ensure there is no leakage and to protect your floors and surface. From that point forward, we recommend inspecting the underside of your mat and/or stool for any potential mildew growth at least once a month and clean where necessary. Teak wood is naturally mildew-resistant however it is not mildew-proof.
Outdoor Dining
Teak is one of the most durable hardwoods available, naturally rich in oils that protect it from moisture, pests, and decay. This makes teak dining furniture especially well-suited for outdoor environments, while still offering a refined look for indoor spaces. Its strength and longevity make it a long-term investment piece.

For outdoor pieces, occasional deeper cleaning may be helpful to remove buildup from the elements.
